Geography

We aim to offer students the opportunity to study a broad range of matters of geographical importance from local issues to global concerns.
To do this, we encourage students to question the world around them and to develop their enquiry skills, skills in map reading and fieldwork techniques.

Our current KS3 programme allows for all year groups to experience some fieldwork during the course of the year. Additionally, all of Year 7 have the opportunity to apply the theory they have learned in the classroom when they visit Whitescar caves and surrounding limestone scenery in the summer term.

At KS3 we study:

  • Local Region and Settlement
  • The Geography of Sport
  • Rural changes and Agriculture
  • Development
  • Restless Earth
  • Weather and Microclimates
  • Limestone

Geography is an option at KS4. It is a popular choice and the students achieve excellent results. Students study five hours of Geography for one year before they sit their final exams. The Controlled Assessment is worth 25% of the final mark and is usually done during the Summer Term where field work activities are planned and carried out whilst on a residential trip in the Lake District National Park.
