Furness Academy

German

On entry into Furness Academy, students will study either French or German.  However, they may have the opportunity to experience the other language during their studies.

At Key Stage 3, those students who are studying German will follow the Echo Express Scheme of Work.  In Year 7, students will learn how to give information about themselves (name, age, birthday, where they live) and talk about school, family and friends.  In Year 8, after some reinforcement of work from Year 7, students will follow topics on free-time, house, and town and country.

If students decide to continue with their study of a language at Key Stage 4, they will follow the AQA GCSE Specification A in German.  They will extend their existing knowledge and language learning skills as well as improve their ability to communicate effectively in German in the four contexts of Lifestyle, Leisure, Home and Environment, and Work and Education.

Students are required to complete two controlled assessments in Speaking and two in Writing.  These assessments constitute 60% of the final mark (30% each).  They will also be required to sit examinations in Listening and Reading which will make up the remaining 40% of their GCSE grade (20% each).
