Spanish
From September 2011, Spanish will only be available at Key Stage 4. Currently, there is a twilight group following the Foundation Certificate of Secondary Education. Students are expected to produce a portfolio of work based on some of the following topics:
- Meeting people
- Home life
- Education and future plans
- Holidays
- Travel and accommodation
- Leisure
- Celebrations
- Health and fitness
- Food and drink
- Region and environment
- Media
- Work and choices
At present, we are looking at possibilities for a small number of students to continue with their study of Spanish at Key Stage 4. Should this course go ahead, they will follow the AQA GCSE Specification A in Spanish. They will extend their existing knowledge and language learning skills as well as improve their ability to communicate effectively in Spanish in the four contexts of Lifestyle, Leisure, Home and Environment, and Work and Education.
Students are required to complete two controlled assessments in Speaking and two in Writing. These assessments constitute 60% of the final mark (30% each). They will also be required to sit examinations in Listening and Reading which will make up the remaining 40% of their GCSE grade (20% each).
