Music
Music is taught at KS3 and KS4. KS3 students receive 1 hour per week and students following the AQA GCSE Music course receive 2 hours per week.
Staff teaching in the Music Department this year are: Mr Guntrip (Head of Music); Mr Simpson; Mrs Guntrip and Mrs Gibbons.
Students have access to a comprehensive range of musical instruments and ICT equipment as they follow their KS3 /KS4 curriculum.
Modules of work covered in the KS3 Curriculum are as follows:
- Y7: Contemporary Styles (Samba Bands);
- 2012 Olympics (Musical Elements);
- Far Eastern Cultures (Music from China) and Journey Through Time (Keyboard performing skills).
- Y8: Popocatepetl (Revision); Soundtracks (Film Music); Cool Chords; Popular Music; West African Drumming; Keyboard Skills.
- Y9: Pop Styles at the Keyboard; Theme & Variations; World Music (Music from Japan, Egypt and Peru); Keyboard Skills; DIY Pop Song.
An instrumental and vocal tuition programme is available for students wishing to receive individual or small group tuition on an instrument or voice. Download more information about or Instrumental Tuition Scheme
The Music Department also run a variety of activities to provide opportunities for students to support them in their development and extension of musical skills and for pure fun. The Music Department also provides opportunities for students to contribute to a number of musical concerts and events during each year including the school show (this year, ‘We Will Rock You’).
