Furness Academy

Inclusion Zone

Our team provides a range of support services for Academy students who may want, or require, additional specialist support to help them overcome a broad range of barriers to learning and possible family related issues.

Two Inclusion Coordinators, supported by the two dedicated Teaching Assistants, run small group programmes helping disaffected and disengaged students deal with anger issues or confidence building - amongst other things.

The team of five Inclusion Mentors provides 1:1 support for students with emotional and behavioural difficulties. They too help to provide support for those students and families where such challenge can lead to strain in student/parent relationships.

In addition, the team provides Primary/Secondary transition support to help the more vulnerable primary aged children to prepare for and be supported through their move to ‘the big school’.

We also provide a ‘safe place’ at break times and lunch times for those students, of all ages, who may need a little extra help in learning to establish and maintain good social relationships with their peers at these less structured times.

The team are fully trained for their role and all have passed appropriate safeguarding training qualifications to help them deal safely with even the most challenging cases.

We believe that Every Child Matters and that the Academy Core Values of Respect, Responsibility and Cooperation provide a most appropriate framework and ethos within which all students can be individually supported and guided to ‘Aim for their Personal Best’.
