Student voice

Students from the three predecessor schools have already been involved in several important Academy decisions, such as the name and the logo and have helped to design the Academy uniform.

There will be many opportunities for students to get involved with helping to shape the Academy's development over the coming years.

Once term starts in September, students will be able to vote for members of the student council, and will be able to contribute to the election of the Head Boy and Head Girl. The elected students will act as representatives and role models and will be able to discuss their ideas with the Academy’s senior leadership team.

We will be looking to consult with students on names for the four Houses and whether each house should have its own school tie. We also want to get student views on the winter sports kit.

Students will also be involved in the development of operational policy – which means they will contribute their ideas to how the school is run and what rules there are in place for all students.

Finally, we are looking at an online rewards policy for good work and behaviour. Again, this is something we want to discuss with our students as soon as term begins.

We will continue to involve and listen to the ideas and opinions of all our students in everyday life at Furness Academy. This will help to make the Academy a happy environment where students feel confident that their ideas are valued, respected and acted on  where appropriate.

The start to the term has been a positive and busy one.  Students arrived back to both sites looking smarter than ever in their uniforms and have approached their studies with a real sense of determination and diligence.  The prefects on both sites have taken to their duties well, and are to be applauded on their efforts to give their personal best. Being a prefect is an honour and provides the opportunity, amongst other things, to represent all the students in meetings with myself and other Senior Leaders.
