Furness Academy is consulting on its proposed admissions arrangements for the 2027/2028 academic year.
Furness Academy is consulting on proposed changes to our admissions arrangements for the 2027/28 academic year. We are committed to ensuring our admissions process is fair, transparent, and compliant with the School Admissions Code.
The proposed changes are to avoid duplication within the admission arrangements.
Oversubscription Criteria (Oversubscription Section) – Removal of Category g (Page 4)
As Category e fully encompasses the priority previously described in Category g, the removal avoids repetition and simplifies the oversubscription criteria without altering the substance or intent of the admissions priorities.
No other categories have been amended or reordered as part of this proposal.
How to Respond to the Consultation
The consultation is open from 17 December 2025 to 28 January 2026.
Responses to the consultation are welcomed from parents, carers, staff, local residents, feeder schools, the local authority, and any other interested parties.
Comments should be submitted:
Furness Academy General Admissions Policy together with associated admission arrangements comply with both the mandatory requirements of the School Admissions Code and with the provisions of Part 3 of the School Standards and Framework Act 1998. The Furness Academy admission arrangements, including the admissions policy for 2025/26, were consulted on with all schools in Cumbria, neighbouring LAs and schools, the Admissions Forum, Diocesan bodies and the trade unions representing staff employed in schools, by the relevant dates.
The Governing Body of Furness Academy took account of this consultation when it determined the policy for 2025/26. In line with regulations the determined policy was placed on the Furness website and a public notice in the press invited objections from the public. If you have any concerns or objections with regard to this policy, please contact Mrs Robinson, Headteacher at hrobinson@furnessacademy.co.uk.
