The Decider Skills

At Furness Academy, our students follow The Decider Skills programme which uses Cognitive Behavioural Therapy to teach children, young people and adults skills to recognise their own thoughts, feelings and behaviours, allowing them to monitor and manage their own emotions and mental health. 

We focus on 12 individual skills (see below) which are aimed at tolerating distress, regulating emotions, increasing mindfulness and improving relationships. We then develop these skills further during form time so our students have the ability to apply them to support their own individual needs and emotions. The skills were designed to enable participants to make effective changes to help manage behaviour and communication and to live a more productive, skilful, less impulsive life.
